1. Obtain an Attestation Letter from South Africa:
- First, you'll need to get an attestation letter from South Africa confirming that your SA license is valid. If it has expired, unfortunately, you won't be able to convert it.

- Email a copy of your valid South African license (both front and back) to CTC@rtmc.co.za. In your email, specify that you need an attestation letter for the purpose of converting your SA license to a Mauritian one. Make sure they are aware that it's for Mauritius, as different certificates apply to different countries.
- Within a week, they will email you back, notifying you that the attestation letter is ready for collection. Anyone can collect it on your behalf; they'll just need your name and ID number. If you prefer, you can use a courier service like DHL to fetch it and send it to you.
2. Prepare the Necessary Documents:
- Once you have the attestation letter, copy the following letter (provided below) and take it along with the original documents listed in the letter to the traffic branch of the Line Barracks Police Station in Port Louis.
- If you're female, remember to bring your marriage certificate or any other documentation that shows your previous names.
3. Visit the Traffic Branch:
- Upon entering the Traffic Branch, take a number at the door. They will direct you to counter 8, where you'll wait until they call your number.
- Submit all your documents, including the letter, to the relevant authorities. They will then provide you with an appointment date for approximately two weeks later.
4. Second Visit:
- Return on your appointed date, bringing everything with you again, along with two passport-sized photos and Rs1500.
- The application process will take place, and they will issue you a receipt.
5. Collection Date:
- You'll receive a date for collection, which will be approximately two weeks later.
In summary, while the process involves some back-and-forth, it is relatively straightforward. Follow these steps, and soon you'll have your Mauritian driver's license!
